The Dead Wife's Revenge
I gave birth to five children for my fiancé, but he said, “Burn this woman alive.”
Jarrett promised to marry me after the delivery.
But in the delivery room, what I got was the news of his wedding-with Roselyn.
Roselyn took my children away.
Jarrett coldly ordered, “Make Melissa disappear.”
I cried and begged as they walked away, laughing.
Luckily, the fire didn’t kill me.
Five years later, I returned to this city.
Those two fools have no idea what’s coming for them.
Chapter 1 Her Cruel Fiancé
"The mother is hemorrhaging. We can only save either the babies or the mother," the doctor said to the person behind him.
After carrying her quintuplets for ten months, Melissa Randall was in the throes of a grueling labor.
Hearing the doctor's words, she turned her head too, her heart pounding.
Finally, Jarrett Gallagher, her fiancé, was here!
At that thought, she felt a surge of joy and excitement.
She struggled to lift her heavy head, and her cracked, dry lips parted with effort as she murmured, "Jarrett..."
But she saw Roselyn Carrillo instead.
She approached Melissa slowly, her face beaming with a coy and enchanting smile. The white wedding dress sparkling with tiny crystals on her stung Melissa's eyes with every step.
That was the Angel's Dress, the wedding gown Melissa had saved for her wedding with Jarrett!
Why was it on Roselyn?
"I'm sorry, Melissa, but Jarrett won't be coming to see you. He's waiting for me at our wedding venue. We're getting married today."
"No way!" Melissa shook her head violently. The pain in her belly was so bad that she clenched her fists, knuckles white. "He promised he'd marry me! I'm carrying his babies!"
But Roselyn remained calm and indifferent, twirling the diamond ring on her finger. "Jarrett didn't want me to go through the pain of childbirth, so he used you as a tool.
"Melissa, you're dying, and you still don't get it? If Jarrett liked you even a little bit, he wouldn't have left you like this."
"I don't believe you! I wanna see him! I wanna see Jarrett!" Melissa shook her head desperately, struggling to get off the operating table.
But as soon as she moved, blood gushed out from beneath her, soaking the surgical table and dripping onto the cold floor.
Just then, Roselyn's phone rang, and the caller ID read "Honey."
"Hello, Jarrett, I'm at the hospital. Melissa is having a tough time giving birth. She looks like she's gonna die." Roselyn's voice was all sweet, but her words were sharp.
There was a silence on the other end of the line, and then came the slow reply, "Better if she's dead."
It was Jarrett's voice!
Melissa had loved Jarrett for twelve years, and she knew him inside out. This was definitely his voice!
He actually said it would be better if she was dead!
Melissa trembled, and tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes. She felt a rush of warm, bitter blood in her throat.
She suddenly remembered that night when Jarrett whispered in the dark, "If you get pregnant, just keep the baby. I'll take care of it."
He said he'd take care of the babies, but he wanted the mother to die!
No wonder he never showed up again after that night.
No wonder she was locked up in the villa once she got pregnant, just to wait for the babies.
No wonder the Angel's Dress she always dreamed of wearing ended up on Roselyn.
It was all because Jarrett never loved her. She was just his tool for reproduction!
But She had wasted ten years loving a total scumbag!
Melissa's vision started to blur, and she felt a warm rush beneath her. The hemorrhage couldn't be stopped anymore!
Roselyn's pretty eyes sparkled with a cold gleam as she thought, "Pregnancy really does make women stupid. She fell for it so easily."
"Relax. I'll take care of your babies," Roselyn said, turning to the doctor. "Save the babies. Get them out for me!"
The doctor broke out in a cold sweat. "I'll get the anesthesia ready now."
"Don't bother. We're saving the babies anyway. Just go ahead and cut," Roselyn snarled, her voice dripping with malice, like it was coming straight out of a horror movie, giving everyone goosebumps.
The doctor didn't dare to say no to her. After all, she was Jarrett's wife-to-be, and everyone looked up to her.
He raised the cold, shiny scalpel, and sliced into Melissa's big, swollen belly.
As her belly was cut open, her mouth opened wide in pain, but she couldn't make a sound.
"It's twins, a boy and a girl!" Two babies were pulled out from Melissa's bloody belly, their wails echoing in the sterile room.
Those were her babies!
She gritted her teeth against the pain, straining to reach the two tiny, pink babies.
But the next second, she fell off the operating table, and there was blood everywhere.
All she could do was watch as Roselyn walked away with the twins.
Their cries faded until they disappeared completely.
Just then, there were frantic footsteps and shouts outside the operating room.
"The hospital's on fire! Everyone run!"
Black smoke quickly filled the whole room. The fire roared like a mad beast, lunging at Melissa with no mercy.
Finally, the flames got to her skin and consumed her completely...
Chapter 2 Return
Five years later.
People were bustling about at Urghburn Airport.
A gorgeous woman in a red dress walked out slowly from the arrival gate and instantly became the center of attention.
Her small face was fair and smooth, with a hint of pink on her nose tip. Her red lips were pursed in an enchanting way. As she walked, her dress flowed like ripples, casually showing off her thin, pretty ankles. She moved with such elegance that she was like a sprite in a fairy tale.
But what really held everyone's gaze were the three adorable kids behind her.
The two boys were wearing the same suits. Their hair was swept back, showing off their nice foreheads. One had a serious, cold look on his face, while the other was smiling warmly.
In the middle was a little girl in a pink dress, holding a lollipop. Her chubby, pretty face and big, watery eyes were cute and melted everyone's hearts.
She tilted her head back and asked in a babyish voice, "Alaina, are we going to the hotel now?"
"Don't be rude. Call me Mommy!" Melissa frowned a little, pretending to be angry.
But when she looked at the three cute little ones in front of her, she couldn't help but smile a little, even though the smile didn't quite reach her eyes.
Urghburn brought back so many painful memories and feelings of anger for her!
Five years ago, she almost died in that fire. Luckily, some kind people saved her and found out she was still pregnant with three fraternal babies that hadn't been taken away.
Then she resolutely went abroad. She got plastic surgery, changed her name to Alaina Lawson, and raised the three kids all by herself.
And now, she was finally back in Urghburn.
She had just one goal: to get back the two kids that Roselyn and Jarrett had taken from her!
When she was lost in thought, her second child, Broderick Randall, took her hand. His face was full of worry. "Mommy, do you feel sick? You look a little pale. I have some motion sickness medicine."
"Hmph, you idiot. You had to sketch on the plane. Now you're airsick," grumbled her eldest boy, Freddy Randall, nicknamed Fred, with a frosty expression.
Her third child, Pamela Randall, trotted over to the suitcase and tried hard to push it forward. "Mommy, let's take a taxi to the hotel right now so you can have some rest!"
Melissa felt warm and smiled gently. "Okay, let's go to the hotel."
In her rush to catch up with the kids, she accidentally bumped into a strong, broad chest.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to..." She looked up to apologize, but when she saw who it was, her eyes got wide in shock.
Jarrett!
After five years, he still looked as handsome as ever, but a lot more mature.
He was dressed in a bespoke black suit today, looking sharp and high-class. The expensive fabric was perfectly ironed without a single wrinkle, and he had an intense, calm aura of power around him, like he had everything under control.
Melissa bit her lips, thinking back to all that had happened five years ago, and her heart ached.
Her nose started to tingle, and she quickly turned away.
She didn't even want to look at Jarrett.
Just one more look would make her feel sick.
She hurried away and disappeared into the crowd.
Jarrett stood there, his narrow, beautiful eyes intense as he stared off in the direction Melissa had disappeared.
Was that really her?
No way, it couldn't be. She died in that fire.
He must have been seeing things just now. Maybe his mind was playing tricks on him.
He actually thought for a second that the lady who bumped into him was Melissa.
But she died five years ago. He looked again at the faces. That lady didn't look like Melissa at all.
Just then, Jarrett's phone rang.
It was his assistant, Leonard Pollard.
"Mr. Gallagher, I've got good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"
Jarrett's eyes got a little cold, and he said in a flat voice, "Just tell me."
Leonard shivered on the other end and didn't dare to mess around. "The good news is that Maureen Farrell is in Urghburn now. We're gonna get her to work with us for sure. The bad news is that Miss Gallagher ran away again."
Jarrett pressed his fingers against his forehead, not really surprised. His voice was cold and sharp as he said, "You have one hour to find her."
Then he hung up and strode forward.
***
Melissa took the three kids to the hotel and quickly checked into a presidential suite.
She was exhausted from traveling, so she took a quick shower and went straight to bed.
Pamela tiptoed in to check on her. After making sure she was fast asleep, she scurried back out and gestured to her two brothers in the living room.
"Brody, let's go. We need to be back before Mommy wakes up."
Freddy, who was playing a game on the couch, didn't even look up. He pulled off a perfect pentakill on the enemy team, then logged out and switched to a trading platform, clicking "Transaction complete. Please pay." "Found another client?" he asked.
"Yeah," Pamela replied, putting on a sunflower-shaped sun hat and slinging a small backpack over her shoulder. Her voice was soft and sweet. "It's a lady in her thirties. She says her company has been having bad luck lately and wants me to tell her fortune."
She paused, then broke into a smile. "Once I earn this money, I'll have 160,000 dollars. I'll put it in Brody's investment company, and the monthly dividends will be enough for many chips and lollipops!"
"Eat less candy, or you'll get cavities," Broderick said gently as he applied sunscreen on Pamela. "Okay, we're heading out. Fred, if Mommy wakes up, make sure to let us know!"
Freddy grunted in response, tapping away at his phone screen as he took on a new game-farming task.
He was so focused that he didn't notice a pair of eyes staring at him from behind.
Chapter 3 A Mistake
Melissa heard everything the three kids said.
She felt a bit helpless and touched her forehead.
To raise the three little ones, she always acted like she was broke, so they grew up being strong and independent. They worked hard to make money and said that once they had saved up 16 million dollars, they would take her on a retirement trip around the world.
At first, she was touched.
But then she found out that Pamela made money by reading people's fortunes, and she was embarrassed.
Pamela was only five. What if she offended someone and got into trouble?
Melissa was worried. She told them over and over not to go out and make money, but she couldn't stop them.
Now, while she wasn't looking, the three kids were planning something.
She went back to her room and changed into a comfy gray tracksuit. She threw on a baseball cap, then set off to track down Pamela and Broderick and give them a good talking-to!
***
In the Grassland Café.
A pretty lady, all dressed up in fancy clothes, looked at Pamela and asked, "You're Master Almighty?"
Pamela tried to stand up straight to look taller. As she nodded her head hard, the strawberry hair tie in her bun wobbled. "Yep, that's me!"
"Sweetie, don't play tricks on me. Where's the real master? Tell me, and I'll get you some chocolate, okay?"
The lady even took out a twenty-dollar bill from her purse, trying to get Pamela to spill the beans.
But Pamela didn't take the money. She stared at the lady with her amber eyes and said in a babyish voice, "You've got a bad mark on your forehead, your lips are thin, and your earlobes are dark. Lately, you've been losing stuff or getting robbed, right?"
The lady was shocked and leaned way over the table. "How did you know?!"
Pamela pursed her lips and leaned back in her chair. "I told you, I'm Master Almighty. I just read your face and told your fortune."
Now the lady believed her.
She didn't dare to look down on the cute little girl anymore. Her eyes were full of respect.
"Master Almighty, please help me! My company has been losing money for the past six months. Orders that used to make money are now causing problems, and I end up losing thirty percent. Do you think there's some bad luck involved?"
"You had plastic surgery," Pamela said, looking at her face. "You changed your oval face into a pointed one. That lets your good fortune leak away, so you can't make money. You'd better get it fixed back to how it was."
The lady quickly covered her cheeks and, after a moment, thanked Pamela over and over. She took out a check for 8,000 dollars and hurried out of the café, heading straight for the plastic surgery hospital.
Pamela held up the check, smiling, and waved it at Broderick, who was not far away. "Brody, look, I've got my fifth 160,000 dollars!"
"Awesome! I'll go get you some ice cream. Wait here," Broderick said, heading toward the nearby ice cream shop.
Pamela sat in the chair, swinging her legs, and hummed a happy tune as she waited for her ice cream.
"Miss Gallagher, I've finally found you! You gotta come with me. Your daddy is worried sick!" A man suddenly showed up in front of Pamela, looking stressed out.
Pamela blinked. "Who are you? I don't know you!"
"Stop kidding. Let's go. Your daddy is waiting outside." Without waiting for her to say anything, the man grabbed her and started pulling her towards the door.
She struggled hard and even knocked off her sunflower-shaped sun hat.
"Brody, help me! Help!" Pamela shouted towards the ice cream shop entrance.
Hearing her, Broderick quickly turned around, his eyes got wide, and he sprinted towards her. "Pamela!"
Chapter 4 Finding Daddy
Broderick ran over and hugged the girl as she clenched to her sunflower hat.
"It's OK. It's OK. I got you!" Broderick patted her back softly.
The girl went rigid and tried pushing Broderick away with her small hands while saying harshly, "Who are you? Let go of me!"
"I'm Brody, your brother!" Broderick looked at the girl in confusion.
She surely looked like Pamela. Why was she acting like a different person?
He touched the girl's forehead tentatively. "No fever. Are you still shaken up? Here. Have some ice cream. It'll help."
The girl caved for the ice cream reluctantly. She stopped struggling and accepted it.
No one in the Gallagher family had offered her ice cream. She took a bite, her bright eyes curving in joy. "Yummy!"
"Enjoy. I'll bring you to get some lollipops after you finish." Broderick ruffled her hair fondly.
Melissa appeared behind them and said calmly, "So many sweets. Aren't you afraid of bad teeth?"
Broderick flinched and said in a small voice, "Mommy. I thought you were napping. Why are you here?"
"I followed you two! You promised not to try to earn money again. Why are you being naughty?" Melissa arched a fine brow and scolded.
"Because we want to take you to eat lobster. Right, Pamela?" Brody nudged the little girl.
Lobsters?
Yvonne instantly remembered the lobster commercials on TV and started drooling. "Lobster! Must be Yummy!"
Melissa laughed over her cuteness.
Couldn't stay mad at the kids anymore, Melissa bent down and picked up Yvonne before kissing her round cheek. "Let's go get some lobsters! I'm buying!"
***
In the black Porsche not far away.
Pamela watched Broderick hug another girl and give her ice cream.
Strawberry ice cream was her favorite!
How could Broderick give it to another girl?!
Fuming, Pamela pulled the car door to confront Broderick. She failed as the door was locked.
"Let me out! Meanies! Once Mommy knows about it, you'll be sorry!" Putting her hands on her hips, Pamela shouted angrily.
Her two braids giggled as she shouted. It was adorable.
She didn't look as intimidating as she thought. Instead, she looked cute.
Pamela shrank one moment later.
The tension in the car rose. Pamela shivered.
Sitting next to Pamela, Jarrett felt annoyed as soon as she mentioned her mommy.
"Shut up. Sit tight," Jarrett ordered curtly.
Pamela asked stubbornly, "Why should I listen to you?"
"Miss Gallagher, this is your daddy. You listen to your daddy, no?" Leonard Pollard, Jarrett's assistant, said hastily in the driver's seat.
Her...daddy?
Pamela's gaze glued to Jarrett as she looked him over carefully over and over again.
In the end, she wrapped her small hand around Jarrett's finger and squeezed it.
It was warm, meaning this wasn't a dream.
"Daddy? You're my daddy?" Pamela's eyes lit up and were full of hope and excitement.
Chapter 5 It's Destined
Pamela's round little face tilted up and her voice was soft.
Jarrett glanced at her, his dark eyes filled with complicated emotions. "Sit tight."
Jarrett ignored Pamela's question and returned his gaze to the financial magazine.
Leonard spoke up, "Miss Gallagher, you forgot about your daddy just after a fun morning? Look at this photo. You two look so close!"
Leonard handed his phone to Pamela.
In the photo, a girl with a twin braid stood in front of this tall handsome man. She had a doll in her arms and was pouting, not in a cute way.
The corner of Pamela's mouth twitched.
She thought, "They look close? This gentleman needs to get his eyes checked."
Before Pamela could say anything, she noticed another child in the corner of the photo and cried in shock, "That's my brother!"
The tension in the car rose again.
Leonard snatched his phone back and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Mr. Gallagher. I just wanted to show Miss Gallagher your photo. I didn't notice..."
Jarrett's eyes darkened and he cut Leonard off, "To the Blossom Manor."
"Yes," Leonard replied and started the car.
Pamela's expression turned solemn as she stared at Jarrett.
The little girl in the photo looked identical to her. And the boy in the corner looked like her two brothers.
She wondered what was going on.
Was this handsome man who showed up out of nowhere really her daddy?
With the question in her mind, Pamela looked at Jarrett and asked sweetly, "Daddy, would you tell me your date of birth?"
"Quiet." Jarrett's expression remained stony.
Noticing Pamela was scared, Jarrett felt a soft spot in him was hit. For the first time, he softened his tone. "Why?"
"I'm a fortune teller. It'll tell me if we're family," Pamela answered.
Leonard was amused.
"Miss Gallagher, since when did you learn fortune-telling? Would you help me? I'm born on 5th, April 1985. Am I going to get rich today?"
Pamela had stared at the back of Leonard's head seriously for a while before saying, "Not at all. Your luck is dropping. You're going to lose big money."
"Too bad, Miss Gallagher. You're wrong. The stock I bought this morning almost hit the daily limit. I'll make a fortune," Leonard said happily.
He thought, "Miss Gallagher is only five. I should've known she couldn't get it right.
"Still, this is interesting."
Leonard didn't want to disappoint Pamela and said, "Miss Gallagher, tell people good news next time. They'll be happy even if the news is false."
Pamela felt offended. She crossed her arms and suddenly looked like an adult. "You may not believe me. But it's Destined."
Upon that, Leonard's phone rang. It was his stock-market buddy.
As soon as Leonard picked up, a desperate cry echoed in the car. "We're fucked, Leonard! The stock is seized by the court when it almost hits the daily limit. But one hour before that, I bought more shares for both of us! We lost 800,000 dollars!"
Chapter 6 Source of Negative Energy
Leonard still hadn't recovered from the shock even when they arrived at Blossom Manor.
Getting out of the car, Pamela saw Leonard's lost look and signed in sympathy.
She extended her small hand and placed it on Leonard's shoulder, comforting him like an adult. "There's a saying that what goes around comes around. Something good will happen now that you lost 800,000 dollars. Cheer up."
Leonard clutched to her words like a drowning man for a rope and snapped his head in her direction, dark eyes full of desperation. "Miss Gallagher, would you help me through this crisis? I don't need another good thing. I only want my 800,000 dollars back!"
Jarrett called Leonard's name in a warning tone. Obviously, he wasn't happy about it.
Jarrett took his time buttoning Pamela's coat. The cyan buttons rolled between his fingers, highlighting his slender hand.
Jarrett didn't need to say more as Leonard had been awakened from his anxiety.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Gallagher." Leonard lowered his eyes guiltily. "I was too worried and acted out of line. It won't happen again."
Leonard thought he must be out of his mind. Why would he think a little girl was a great fortune teller and seek her guidance?
It must just be a coincidence.
Berating himself inwardly, Leonard opened the door car for Jarrett and Pamela. Then, he left Blossom Manor.
Pamela stared at the car as it drove off. After a while, she turned her gaze to the building in front of her.
"Let's go," Jarrett said in a deep voice.
Pamela didn't want to go and stubbornly stood on the spot. "This house is filled with negative energy. I'm not going in."
It'd bring bad luck!
"What negative energy?" Jarrett frowned.
Pamela pointed ahead and said, "It's from over there."
Jerrett looked in the direction Pamela was pointing at. An enchanting figure appeared in the foyer.
Pamela was pointing at the exact spot between the woman's brows.
"She's your mommy," Jarrett said.
Pamela blinked her beautiful eyes, feeling sympathy toward Jarrett. "So, she's your wife? Poor you for marrying such a jinx."
Jarrett glanced at Pamela, amusement glimmering in his eyes. He nodded and said, "Indeed."
They weren't loud, but the woman heard everything as she was within earshot.
Her face turned purple in anger.
Her carefully manicured fingers dug into her palms, nearly drawing blood.
Roselyn was seething and was eager to strangle this brat of Melissa's. She thought, "Damn you, Yvonne!"
However, she restrained herself as she needed Yvonne to stay with the Gallagher family.
Roselyn quickly collected her thoughts and forced a smile before walking toward them.
"Vonnie, are you sharing a secret with Daddy?" Roselyn asked gently, trying hard to play a good wife and a good mother.
Pamela immediately took two steps back to keep her distance from Roselyn.
Her eyes were full of distaste.
Roselyn was familiar with this look after these years. Still, it pissed her off.
She had taken care of Yvonne since she was little. Yet, Yvonne never liked her. She even worked against Roselyn in every way possible, often putting Roselyn in an awkward situation.
She was doing it again.
"Mr. Gall... Daddy. Let's go inside. It's cold out here," Pamela said.
Jarrett nodded and picked up Pamela before striding into the house.
Roselyn was left on the spot as both of them had ignored her completely.
Chapter 7 Be Careful
Pamela's jaw literally dropped when she was inside the house.
Mr. Gallagher was rich!
The fancy decoration, expensive ornaments, a TV that was as big as the wall, a giant sofa set, and more than a dozen maids.
"Being your daughter must be happy." Titling her head up, Pamela said seriously.
Jarrett pursed his thin lips and looked at the little girl. Suddenly, he scoffed, "Sweet talk won't get you out of corner time."
"Jerrett." Roselyn hurried over and said with feigned affection, "Vonnie didn't mean to run away. Don't be mad. She's all we have left. Cherish her, OK?"
Jarrett's dark eyes turned even colder, emotions brooding inside.
He could never get over the fact that he lost his son.
Yet, his gaze softened as he turned to Pamela. "Don't do it again."
He went to the study on the second floor in strides.
Once Jerrett left, Roselyn glared at Pamela and pinched her round cheek. "Don't run off again. Or I won't help you get out of corner time next time."
"You didn't want to help me at all." Pamela tilted her head and stared at Roselyn. She blurted out, "You were just pretending to be a good mother."
Pamela tsked and shook her little head. "Shame that you're too obvious. It isn't convincing at all."
Roselyn gritted her teeth.
She thought, "The brat only left half a day. Why does she change so much? Where does the sharp tongue come from?"
"Be careful of your words, kid." Roselyn schooled her face. "Or you'll get spanked."
Pamela wasn't afraid and merely took a step back. "You be careful. Judging from the negative energy between your brows, you're going to get hurt today. There'll be blood."
What?
Roselyn became angrier.
How dare this brat jinx her?
"That's what you learned today?!" A dangerous light flashed in Roselyn's beautiful eyes. "If you don't stop, I'm not taking you to an amusement park."
Ignoring Roselyn, Pamela ran to the couch and climbed on it. She found the remote and started looking into the big TV.
Roselyn took several deep breaths to control her anger.
If Jarrett wasn't home, she could've punished this brat!
However, getting close to Jarrett was more important.
Roselyn went to the kitchen and made a cup of coffee. She adjusted her push-up bra to make her boobs look bigger before heading toward Jerrett's study.
Before she could go far, her hand trembled. The cup of steaming coffee splashed on her hand. She dropped the cup, breaking it.
The loud noises got Pamela's attention. "I warned you."
"It's just an accident," Roselyn snored inwardly.
She thought, "The brat said there'd be blood. It's just a small burn. There won't even be scars. Just let me put my hand under the faucet."
Roselyn turned to go back downstairs. Unfortunately, she stepped on the slipped coffee and lost her footing. She slumped down on the stairs, her left hand propping on the broken glass. The shard pierced her hand. Blood was everywhere.
"See. If you're not careful, you get hurt." Pamela jumped off the couch. "I'll fetch a maid and bring you to the hospital, OK?"
In this case, she could slip out of the hospital and go back to her mom and brothers!
To Pamela's disappointment, a maid stopped her from leaving. "Miss Gallagher, stay at home. We'll take Mrs. Gallagher to the hospital."
Then, the maid snatched Pamela up and brought her upstairs.
Chapter 8 Your Love Life
Pamela was taken back to Yvonne's room directly.
"Miss Gallagher, rest. I'll bring dinner up for you later," the maid said.
Pamela's stomach grumbled as she heard the word "dinner".
Hugging her belly with her chubby hands, she looked at the maid with stars in her eyes. "What are we having for dinner?"
"Your favorite. Asparagus and cheese bread," the maid answered.
Pamela's face twisted in disgust. That was it?
She felt sorry for Miss Gallagher.
When she met Miss Gallagher, she'd take Miss Gallagher out and try all the local delicacies. It should open her eyes.
Pamela told the maid to leave. She jumped down from the bed and started wandering around the room.
As she failed to follow the unlucky lady to the hospital, Pamela had to find another way to slip out. Her plan was to call her brothers and ask for help.
However, Pamela couldn't find a phone in the room.
Suddenly, she remembered Jarrett.
That handsome man looked like a big shot. He must have a phone, right?
Wasting no time, Pamela found a bottle of milk and poured it into a glass. It smelt so sweet that she had to take a sip before taking it to the study.
In the study, Jarrett was having a video meeting with people overseas.
He had changed into light black pajamas and still looked as handsome and indifferent as he was in a suit. Smoke from the cigarette between his fingers floated and clouded the dimly lit room.
Pamela poked her head in and immediately started coughing, her cheeks turning red.
Jarrett heard the coughing and immediately put out the cigarette. He looked at Pamela with a frown. "Why are you here?"
"I'm here to give Mr. G... Dad milk!" Pamela raised the glass in her hands and said sweetly, "Are you busy, Dad? I can come back later."
"Not necessary," Jarrett hung up, stopping the meeting. His thin lips pressed into a line. "Bring it over."
Pamela ran over and handed Jarrett the milk.
She circled the room before pulling the curtains open and opening the windows. As the bright sunlight came into the room, the strong scent of smoke dissipated.
"Dad, don't smoke too much!" Pamela beamed cutely. "It's bad for your health. Keep the windows open often. Fresh air and sunlight are important. A dim room is bad for business."
She paused before adding, "And your love life too."
"I have no love life," Jarrett scoffed, convinced that Pamela was talking nonsense.
"Aren't you married to that woman? There's no love between you two?" Pamela blinked her eyes shockingly.
The next second, Jarrett's gaze darkened. "Who told you that? Your mom?"
Pamela shrank a little and said nothing.
It didn't calm Jarrett down, rage brooding in his dark eyes.
Jarrett gave Roselyn everything he could except marriage and love.
He even allowed Roselyn to live under the same roof. Perhaps, he'd have a love life if that woman could return from death...
Pamela tilted her head. The wise and deep light in her eyes didn't fit her age. "Anyway, this is what my fortune-telling said."
She extended her hand. "If you want more details, give me your phone. Then, I'll tell you."
Jarrett stared at the chubby little hand and paused.
Turned out it was only her excuse for some screen time.
How could he fall for it? For a second, he thought of that woman, believing that she could return and be his love again...
